Primary Eteo logo

Founder Gregorios Kythreotis (creator of 2021’s Sable) asked us to design a brand identity and system for Eteo. More than just a game development studio, Eteo is a platform for initiatives surrounding interactive media.

Eteo means “true” in ancient Greek (Kythreotis’ heritage) and where we began drawing inspiration from for this project.

Collage of reference images

We took visual cues from from Greece’s Iron Age: pottery, alphabets, city plans, currency (all world-building essentials), to create the logo system.

Eteo logo system

We landed on a geometric mark that feels simultaneously timeworn and futuristic. The system reflects the multiple ways Eteo connects the dots.

Archetypes is inherently niche, so we wanted to counter that with a design that felt accessible and familiar; by echoing the spirit of independent print publishing.

The imagery is modified by an easy to use, open-source program that generates a printed halftone effect. This way different editors are able to maintain visual consistency across the website. The layered, detailed nature of the halftone treatment reflects each article’s pursuit in examining overlooked areas of game design.
